Toomas

On mitmeid avaliku korra rikkumisi, alkoholi tarvitamine.

IN ENGLISH

A young man, 18 years old, completed 8 forms and has not been to school for a couple of years. He has several breaches of public order and problems with alcohol. A year ago, he smashed in the windows of a schoolhouse with a bat. He does not want to go to school on principle, because he thinks he can do without education. He does odd jobs undeclared and is a leader of a youth gang. On weekends, there is a lot of partying and often vandalising in the town. The young man did sometimes visit the youth centre, but he spent most of his time at gathering places for young people (skate park, town park).
A youth work specialist from Youth Prop Up achieved good contact with him and invited the young man to the Youth Centre. For a couple of months, they played billiards, as the youth was very good at it. They organised tournaments and the young man had an opportunity to teach others. The Prop Up youth worker was interested in what interests and dreams the young person has. They also shared information on further studies. At first, the young man said he would never go to school, but in a few months, he showed genuine interest in learning opportunities. In the meantime, he participated in workshops and daily activities at the Youth Centre. One day, he decided he wanted to go to an adult gymnasium. At the adult gymnasium, he heard one important sentence he wanted to share with the Youth Prop Up youth worker: ‘We take you as a blank slate; you are welcome to our school.’ The young man graduated from school and is currently in conscription service and wants to continue his studies later on.
